17,025.5 km to belfast
A whale went past this morning. Just beyond the wall, a spout and then the long grey back, going north for the winter like a sensible person. Everybody in the pool stopped and stood up and pointed. Even Vic.
85.5 km.
When we were girls, Da took us to the Ormeau Baths on Saturday mornings. Big Victorian place, red brick, and the noise in there, all those children shrieking under that high roof. Bridie could swim before she could read. By eight she was up and down the big pool like an eel and winning little medals off men with clipboards.
I stood in the shallow end and held the rail. I liked it there. I could see everything from the shallow end.
I looked the baths up. It was an art gallery for a while, and then it closed, and now it's offices for young people who make apps. I'd say the acoustics are still terrible.
