a letter, on paper
I found the address. It wasn't hard: she's listed in Das Örtliche, the online phone directory. Name, street, landline. People her age never asked to be taken out.
I didn't want to call. Calling an 87-year-old stranger about a book from 1964 feels like a scam. So I wrote a letter. On paper, with a pen, which I haven't done since school.
I kept it short: who I am, that I own Band I, that I'm curious about Band II, that I'd be grateful for any memory, and that she should absolutely feel free to ignore me. My phone number at the bottom.
My handwriting is terrible. I rewrote it three times.
Posted it at the yellow box on Müllerstraße. Now I wait. Could be weeks. Could be never.
