Magpie season. There's one in the fig at the bottom of the hill who has decided I'm the enemy. He came down twice on Saturday, close enough that I heard the wings.
Lachie drew a pair of eyes on the back of my yellow cap with a texta, and now I walk down the hill with my cap on and two big eyes looking backwards. The magpie hasn't touched me since. A man walking his dog said "morning" to the eyes.
My first whole winter in the water, nearly. No whiteboard for me this year, but I went in every morning I could, and the cold stopped being a shock about the middle of July and became more of an opinion.
152.1 km. Still in the Wollemi, Lachie says. It's a big place.
Water 18 this morning, and going up.
