Jonas and Hanna finally met. Tonight, here, after midnight. Both of them showed up within ten minutes of each other, no warning, like they'd planned it.

They got along really well. Better than well. They laughed at the same things, they finished each other's sentences about Leipzig, of all places. I sat on the windowsill and watched.

I was a little jealous. I'm not proud of it.

They felt like two numbers that divide into each other with nothing left over. For a moment I felt like a number that would subtract.

Before they left they decided we're going to the movies next Thursday, all three of us. Jonas wants to go see Asteroid City. Hanna said she doesn't mind what it is, she just wants to sit in the middle.

Then she tore a corner off the last page of Band I and wrote two words on it in pencil: Tamám Shud. She said it's Persian and means "it is finished." I asked what was finished. She smiled. I put it in the small pocket of my jeans, the one nobody ever uses.
