the institute
Saturday, rain, research.
The Institut für Angewandte Stochastik was part of the East German Academy of Sciences, in Adlershof, in the southeast of the city. After reunification the Academy was dissolved and the institutes were closed, merged or "evaluated" out of existence. Today Adlershof is a science park with glass buildings and startups and a very good Vietnamese place.
What I found:
- One 1967 paper by H. Lindqvist on "noise-based number generation". Lindqvist died in 1988.
- Several papers by U. Brenneke, statistics, 1958–1979. Then nothing.
- In a 1999 local newspaper archive: a birthday column (people still did those) congratulating a Dr. Ute Brenneke, Baumschulenweg on her 65th.
So she was born in 1934. She would be 87.
She might still be alive. She might still live in Baumschulenweg.
I feel weird about this. Looking for a book is fine. Looking for an old woman is something else.
