ragnhild vollan
A bit about the book, since that's the reason I'm here.
Mørketid is by Ragnhild Vollan, who is 78, lives on the other side of this island, and doesn't use email. Her daughter Hege emails for her, and when Ragnhild has an opinion she writes it by hand and Hege scans it. The opinions are frequent.
The problem is the title. My publisher in London wants the English edition to be called Polar Night. Ragnhild's reply came this morning, one line in blue biro:
Polar night is for brochures.
I agree with her, which is awkward, because Fran pays me.
Also I'm not sleeping. Four hours, maybe. I lie there and the room's the same dark at two as it'll be at nine, so there's no reason to get up and no reason not to. I've translated eleven pages tonight.
The knock this morning was 11:37. I didn't even get up.
