Monday. Solar noon at the field today: 12:06.
At noon it was completely grey. Valentina's mother had brought her out of school for this, Carmen had her umbrella, Don Segundo had his hat, I had no hat at all this time.
At 12:05 the clouds opened. Not much. A hole the size of a football pitch, straight above us, for about a minute.
We stood on the line. All of us, Pelusa too, with paint on his paws. I looked down. Nothing. No shadow under me, none under Carmen, none under Valentina, none under the dog. Just the white line, and our feet on it.
Then the clouds closed again and it started to rain.
Carmen said, "¿Y ahora qué?"
I didn't have an answer. Nobody needed one.
