staying
Labour Thanksgiving Day. It's a Saturday this year, so we don't even get a day off for it, which my director called "very Japanese of the calendar."
News: from January I'm full-time at the firm. Proper salary, bonus twice a year, the lot. I could afford 63,000. I could afford Koenji again, nearly.
I did the sums on the back of a seed catalogue. I called Bea. Bea said move, obviously, it's a death flat, are you insane. Then she said, "but you sound fine there," which is the most annoying thing she's ever said to me, because it's true.
The lease runs to March 2021. I'm staying.
Small things:
- The dentist still sends Sawada-san a card every six months. I write the same two words on it.
- The futon is cold on both sides now. That's just November.
- The last line in the intercom log is 09/09 03:12.
- This afternoon I ordered morning glory seeds from the nursery in Chiba, from the catalogue in the shoebox. Twelve varieties, 380 yen a packet. I picked the blue one from the March cover.
Hoshino-san says plant them in May, after the last cold night, and put the strings up first.
