Typhoon Faxai came through overnight.

From about one o'clock the wind got loud, then louder. The balcony window flexed in its frame. Something metal rolled down the street for a whole minute. The building moves in wind, a little, which I didn't know. I was awake on the futon with my phone, reading weather updates and watching the light from the street lamp swing.

At 3:12 the corridor light came on under the door. Then the chime.

I said okaerinasai out loud, to the door. Welcome home.

Then I felt stupid, and then I didn't, and the light went off.

The power flickered twice but stayed on here. JR says no trains until eight at the earliest, and the news is showing the queue outside a station in Chiba going round the block. The office sent a message: come when you can. I'm working from home. I haven't slept.
