ten past three

The log since May:

05/09 03:12
05/24 03:12
06/03 03:13
06/20 03:12
07/06 03:12

Tonight I stayed up for it. Sitting on the tatami with the lights off, back against the wall, phone face down.

At 3:12 the corridor light came on. I could see it under the door, a yellow line. No steps on the stairs. Fourteen metal steps and they ring a little under a person, and I heard nothing.

Then the chime.

I looked at the screen. Railing, light, top of the stairs. Then the light went off again.

I didn't open the door.

The pothos is facing the oshiire again. I turned it every morning for seven weeks. I stopped turning it on Thursday, to see, and it took two days.

One more thing. On Thursday Hoshino-san stopped me at the post boxes and said, kindly, "You came home late last night. Ten past three. Work is hard?"

I was asleep on Wednesday night. I had earplugs in.
